Overview
A class action lawsuit has been filed against Orange County’s United Way in Orange County Superior Court (Case No. The case, brought by plaintiff Claudia Chavez, involves claims related to employment practices and worker compensation. The settlement has been approved by the court and now class members must decide how to proceed. Class members who were employed by Orange County’s United Way during the relevant period are eligible to receive compensation under this settlement. Those who do nothing will automatically remain part of the settlement class and receive their allocated payment.
Alternatively, class members may submit a dispute form if they believe the number of work weeks calculated for them is inaccurate. To challenge the work week calculation, you must complete and mail a dispute form along with supporting documentation to the settlement administrator by August 25, 2026. The settlement administrator will review your records and any evidence you provide, and if the parties cannot resolve the dispute informally, the administrator will make a determination that may be reviewed by the court. Class members also have the option to opt out of the settlement entirely by submitting an exclusion form postmarked by August 25, 2026. Those who opt out will not receive settlement funds but may still be entitled to an Individual PAGA Payment if they qualify as an aggrieved employee.
Additionally, class members may object to the settlement terms, though this option should be exercised separately from opting out. All forms and supporting documentation must be mailed to the settlement administrator at CPT Group, Inc. , PO Box 19504, Irvine, CA 92623, with postage paid and postmarked on or before August 25, 2026.
