Overview
A California court has granted final approval to a class action settlement involving AllianceOne Incorporated and its affiliated entities. The case, brought by plaintiff J’Necia Monique McCleton on behalf of similarly situated workers, centers on employment-related claims spanning the period from November 8, 2017 through August 31, 2023. The court held a final approval hearing on September 13, 2024 at 10:30 a. in San Diego Superior Court, Department C-268, and determined that the settlement terms are fair, reasonable, and adequate for all class members.
The settlement establishes a gross fund of $750,000 to compensate eligible workers. Class members include all non-exempt employees who worked for AllianceOne at any point during the class period. The court previously granted preliminary approval on November 22, 2023, at which time notice packets were mailed to class members informing them of their rights and the settlement terms. No class members filed written objections or indicated an intention to appear at the final approval hearing.
The settlement will proceed as approved, with individual payments distributed to participating class members according to the agreement terms. From the settlement fund, $37,500 will be paid to the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency as its share of civil penalties, $10,000 will cover settlement administration costs through CPT Group Class Action Administrators, and up to $10,000 will be awarded to the class representative as an enhancement award. Class counsel from Aegis Law Firm, PC has been confirmed to represent the class. Class members who took no action and did not opt out of the settlement will automatically receive their individual settlement payments.
